Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALC) is an amino acid naturally found in the body. Acetyl-L-Carnitine-PLC™ contains two of the most effective forms of ALC, namely ALC-arginate and Propionyl-L-Carnitine (PLC). Carnitines play an important role in lipid metabolism and energy production. They are essential for normal mitochondrial function, acting as a transporter of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for beta-oxidation. Propionyl-L-Carnitine may have a positive inotropic effect and improve ventricular function and cardiac output in chronic heart failure. Arginine is the physiological precursor of nitric oxide and it significantly decreases mean systolic blood pressure.
